I like to read (and reread) books on parenting on a regular basis, and am currently on the hunt for great books that contain parent's stories and insights on how to help their children reach their full potential. So, If you have read a great book that inspired you to become a better parent please let me know: I would love to add it to my list.
Here's some parenting picks I've enjoyed:
"Teach Like Your Hair's on Fire," Rafe Esquith - Not technically a parenting book, but it does have some great tips.
"How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk" Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish - This is the standard book that my mom read when she was a young parent, and my kids will probably be reading it too someday.
"Siblings Without Rivalry," Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish
"The Happiest Toddler on the Block: The New Way to Stop the Daily Battle of Wills and Raise a Secure and Well-Behaved One- to Four-Year-Old," - I Didn't necessarily love the "Neanderthal" analogy used throughout this book, but it was fun to sit on the floor and cry "Ethan mad, mad, mad," from time to time. This book basically espouses the same philosophy in Faber and Mazlish's books, but applied to a much younger child.
"Playful Parenting," Lawrence J. Cohen
"Raising our Children, Raising Ourselves," Naomi Aldort
"The Blessings of a Skinned Knee: Using Jewish Teachings to Raise Self-Reliant Children," Wendy Mogel
"What the Scriptures Teach us About Raising a Child," Wilcox
"How to Get Your Kid to Eat, but Not Too Much," Ellyn Satter, 1987 - I love this book: it took all the stress out of mealtimes when Ethan was little.
"How to Get Your Kid to Eat, but Not Too Much," Ellyn Satter, 1987 - I love this book: it took all the stress out of mealtimes when Ethan was little.
"Baby Minds: Brain-building Games your Baby will Love," Linda Acredolo and Susan Goodwyn
