This past Monday was "Marathon Monday," and we were lucky enought to have family come into town. In honor of our visiting runners, we "decided" to give them (and us) as many opportunities to run to and from our various activities over the course of the long weekend.
Thursday Run: Madison and 53rd to GCT
Bekah and I had a fun day tromping around Central Park with the kids. Ethan's favorite part was the polar bear at the zoo and the "armies" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. We walked a total of 6 miles (no, this is not an exaggeration,-I looked it up on gmaps). I realized that Bekah is in WAY better shape than I am when she looked at me a little confused after I told her my feet were getting tired fom so much walking. Realizing that we were going to miss our train, we ran the last 1/2 mile back to GCT (while pushing the stroller, and weaving our way a mass of commuters )
Friday Run: GCT to Gershwin Theatre
Just before leaving to meet Kathrine, Anne, and Bekah in the city to see Wicked, J checked the traffic, saw that it was red and black going into the city, and we zipped over the the train, only to arrive at GCT 15 minutes before the show started. We ran by the grid-locked taxis to make it to the theater just on time. Meanwhile, we talked to the gals on the phone, who were eating a leisurely dinner on 2nd ave, instead of 7th. So, they got in on the running fun to make it to the theater too!
Saturday Run: Battle Road to Minuteman Visitor's Center
After driving up to Boston, and picking up Anne and Bekah's Marathon Bibs in Boston, we made it back to my parents sparring a little time to check out some of the revolutionary war sites near my home (Patriot's-Day Weekend is a great time to visit, because they re-enact all of the events-from the battles, to the capture of Paul Revere). Pulling into the Battle Road Parking lot at 4:30, we saw the sign that said the last presentation started at 4:30. Bekah and I ran the 1/5 mile just in time to walk in the theater in front of the closing doors. Unfortunately we were the only ones who ran, and consequently the only ones who got to see the presentation.
Sunday: Ate Like Hungry Runners
We also had a pleasant afternoon visiting North Bridge and Walden Pond.
Monday Run: The real runners finished with awesome times of 3:23:47 and 3:34:07.
In their honor, we ran from the car to the race.
Realizing that Bekah could be running by the 17.5 mile marker at in less time than it would take us to walk to the race, we ran the 1/4 mile from our car to the course-This time, let by Kathrine sprinting ahead with the stroller. We spotted both Bekah and Anne, although they didn't see us or hear our cheers (the crowd was very boisterous) Although, I did get some great photos of Bekah, we spotted Anne too late, and in the middle of a crowd.
